Hello, from This Handmade Life.

Hello BDN readers! Welcome to my humble blog. Recently, the Bangor Daily News asked me to share this blog with their readers via their online newspaper edition.

I would love to begin by giving you some lofty reason for my writing this blog. I want to treat you to the perfect elevator speech about the theme of my writings and to blow your mind with my academic jargon. But alas … it’s all much simpler than that. Nearly ten years ago, I began to write This Handmade Life in an effort to make sense of my world … to chronicle the choices I have made in an effort to craft the life that I want for myself and my family … to speak openly about the parts of the human condition that both astound and baffle me … to showcase my artistic endeavors … and to brag about my kid and the city we live in. Somewhere along the way, I developed a following of people who liked the way I shared all of these things. So here we are.

Sure, I suppose there are some themes to what I tend to write about … community, adoption, homeschooling, family, and sharks (yes, sharks). And I have all sorts of ideas for new material that I hope you guys will appreciate (beginning with my attendance at a birthday party for a 106 year old woman here in Bangor). I look forward to writing about the same subjects I always have … in an open and forthright way … with respect for all involved … and with apologies for my grammar. I am excited to be part of the Bangor Daily News blogging team. Thank you for reading.
